Beltane Ceremony You Can Do With Your Kids

Gather in a place of special significance to you and your family. Outside is preferred, but a beloved family living room (for example)

 can work just as well. Sweep the area (whether ceremoniously or not) and have it cleared of debris.

Family members can help the children to create a circle in the center of the area. You can make this out of scattered flowers, twigs, or even scarves are good items to use (do not use scarves around a fire).

Each child can hold a handful of flowers.

The family will hold their own handful of flowers over their head, waving them in a circle around their heads. "Spirit, Divine and Energies of Love, be here now and encircle us with your love and protection." - swirling the flowers around their bodies, starting at the head and working down to the feet, so the energy can go into the earth to be recycled.

The family then carefully joins hands. Each person will hold the flowers in the same hand (ie. everyone holds their flowers in their right hand) so that the person on their left will gently grasp them by the wrist to close the circle. Once they have joined "hands", the family will walk in a circle 3 times, saying "Spring is here, and so are we. The world awakens, and so do we"


Family Member 1 says "Breathe of Air, winds so sweet. Be here now."

Family Member 2 says "Warmth of Fire, sun's life-giving heat. Be here now."

Family Member 3 says "Quenching Water, moistens the earth. Be here now"

Family Member 4 says "Our strong planet enjoys a rebirth. Be here now."

All say "We celebrate the first of May, our family grows stronger every day! From sea, to forest, to mountain top, where breeze blow and rain clouds drop. From sunny deserts to rivers long, this beautiful planet is where we belong."

Family Member 1 says "I toss a flower into the center, the place where there is no beginning and no end. I honor the baby lambs now suckling and strong"

Family member 2  says "I also toss a flower into the center. I honor the budding trees and plants, the homes and food for many"

Family member 3  says "This flower I toss is to honor fire. The sun that helps us all grow and keeps the earth warm"

Family member 4  says "And this, my flower, is for the air. It carries pollen, it scatters seeds, it gives us sweet air to breathe"

All say "Blessed Divine, Accept our gifts and feel our honoring love"

(if you are doing this outside around a fire, then each person can cast a flower into the fire instead of onto the ground)

Family member 1 says "May all the world feel love this day. May they feel the new growth of the season as it calls their hearts to open wider. May this help bring peace to all the world"

Family member 2 says "Maiden, Mother and Queen, Crone..... Boy, Father and King, Elder......the cycles of life. We honor you"

Family member 3 says  "Male and Female, the energy of creation, we thank you for the beauty you have created!"

Family member 4 says "May this union bring a bountiful harvest, fulfillment of wishes, and health and prosperity to our family! So mote it be!

All say "So mote it be!"

The family then bids the energies of the elements farewell. They may do so in the same order as they welcomed them, or in reverse order. Instead of saying "Be here now", they could say "Thank you and farewell"

All say "Our thanks are said, farewells are bid, our circle opens. And so it is."

(or closing of your choice)

The family will take the remaining flowers in their hands and place them into a vase, which can be placed on a mantle or in the center of the dining table.

The family can then enjoy eating together. Suggestions for food include: fresh spring greens, lamb, new potatoes, spring rolls, and other appropriate foods
