October Winding Down and Museum Day

After we decorated the Halloween House, we hung out with some good friends and then went for a hike in the woods. There's nothing quite like an autumn hike!

Here are a few pics of our most recent museum history class...

I realize that this post is mostly pics, but it's been soooo busy (in a good way!!)!!!!  We have been enjoying the October activities, having fun with friends, attending museum history classes, and still plowing through our lesson work.

DS11 has been doing some pre-algebra along with some geometry introductory work, reading response writing, and some nature/moon/stars observations (Astronomy). We're taking a brief break from Ancient Rome after our 8-week block. We'll pick it back up again soon, because I want to finish with a 4-week block before the holidays (if possible) so that we can move on to a Medieval block.

DD9 has been doing some adding and subtracting with 3-digit numbers and including borrowing/carrying. There have been some word problems included as well, which can be a little tricky with a language-delayed student but I accommodate by rephrasing the question if she seems to be struggling with what it is asking of her.  For LA, she has been doing more work with prefixes, suffixes, synonyms, antonyms, and homophones (I've blogged about some of this previously). We've added in some spelling each week. She is very good at memorizing the spelling of words, but less so with the definition (which I assume is related to her language delay). We utilize repetition, which does seem to help her. We're taking a short break from Native American studies after her 3-week block of it. We'll start back up with it again soon as we gear up for Thanksgiving.

We're still attending co-op classes 1x/week and the occasional play date with our other homeschool group. We're very excited for Halloween this year and can't wait to go trick-or-treating!
